I've been trying to write this post all day, I drafted about five different posts. Nothing seemed right though. Here's my next and hopefully final attempt, to write my first proper article.
I question quite a few things on stardoll, one being the 'Party' feature. I'm confused as to how the chance to make friends and meet new people developed into a sleazy corner of the stardoll world advertising supposed sex clubs and some members asking for boyfriends and girlfriends? Party names such as 'Take my top off’ and 'Fancy me' make up around a third of all the parties I've seen this afternoon. You get the idea of what they appear to be about.
I explored the suite of a member (who will remain anonymous), a host of one of the supposed 'sex' parties. She was only 12 years old, that’s what shocked me most! It reminded me of the Lavanderluva scandal which really put the over sexualisation of some children into perspective, whilst shocking the stardoll community about the extreme lengths some members go to for attention and perhaps affection.
The appeal? To be perfectly honest I just can't see it. Advertising and exposing myself to others isn't something I would particularly right to do.
'Just a laugh', 'Thought it would be funny'. Maybe this is why the parties are hosted. I'm unsure and feeling that I might be taking this a little too seriously.
